How To Be An Ideal Wingman For Your Buddies

How many times has Robin saved Batman from being dismembered by an arch enemy? How would the Green Hornet ever survive without his trusty sidekick Kato working behind the scenes?

Almost every superhero lives and dies by his sidekick.  And the situation is similar when it comes to picking up chicks.  This is especially true in a bar or nightclub setting, where having a wingman can be hugely helpful.

What does it take to be a good wingman for your mates?  Let’s look at some of the keys to being a great wingman:

1. The Goal Is To Assist, Not Get In on the Action

If your buddy is already doing well and tells you he no longer needs your help, then the door is open for you to make your own moves and break away from your friends. But until that happens, keep in mind your goal is to support your friend’s efforts, and your own pursuits are secondary.

2. Don’t Overshadow Your Friends  

If your buddy isn’t exactly “Cupid” and often struggles with the ladies, it may be tempting to take over the lead in conversations and run your own game.

Even if you do this with the best intentions, it’s usually going to end up ruining your mate’s attempts to get laid.  So stick to the back seat, even if your friend is crashing and burning.

3. Start Helping Before You Leave Home

The best wingman will not only help friends when they’re in action, he’ll also provide some guidance before and after a night out.  Make sure your friends dress appropriately and look good before you head for the bar or club.

If he has a rough night that ends in rejection, chill with him after you leave the bar or club and encourage him to try again tomorrow (or another time soon).  

4. Bring the Energy

A good wingman can provide excitement and energy if his friend is falling flat.  When your buddy calls on you to enter the conversation, bring a renewed energy to help keep things interesting.

5. Take One For the Team: Occupy Her Friends

Chances are good that the girl your friend is chasing will have at least one or two friends with her, meaning your job is to keep those girls occupied while your friend runs his game on the target. Don’t let the target’s girlfriends interfere with his work.

6. Don’t Get in the Bloody Way!

If you want to ruin a friendship, steal your friend’s target lady on a night out.  A good wingman will do whatever it takes to get his friend laid, even if it means shutting down advances from the target girl just so his friend can take another stab at it.
