3 Ways To Be A Better Girlfriend
If you’ve fallen madly in love with a guy, the last thing you want is for him to get cold feet or have second thoughts, leaving you wondering if you’ll ever find “Mr Perfect” again.
To avoid that scenario, it always helps to treat your man the way he wants to be treated. So, with that in mind, here are three ways you can instantly become a better girlfriend:
1. Become Interested in His Interests
It’s all too easy to write off your boyfriend’s hobbies and interests as “guy stuff.” But if he’s passionate about something — whether it’s a hockey team or a musician or his local pub — then you should show him that you’re willing to learn about / care about these things, too.
Every healthy relationship requires compromise from both parties. That means if he’s willing to bake cupcakes with you on Saturday afternoon, you should be willing to help him change the oil on his car.
It means that if he watches the latest episode of Gossip Girls with you, you should watch the football game with him. By showing genuine interest in his hobbies and interests, you’re sending a clear message: I like you so much I’m willing to make your passions a focus of my life, too!
Not only will that earn you a lot of respect and admiration in his eyes, it will also help you find more things to do together as a couple.
2. Compliment Him
Women are used to getting compliments, especially from the men in our lives. But while men may keep quiet and not seek validation, their confidence can sometimes use a boost, too.
So if you want your boyfriend to know how great you think he is, throw him a compliment from time to time! It doesn’t have to be anything special. A simple, “wow, you are so good at crossword puzzles!” or “how on earth did you know what? You’re so smart sometimes!” can make a huge impression. Do this every so often and he’ll feel great and be regularly reminded you think he’s great.
3. Spend Time Getting to Know his Friends and Family
Look, you may not like your father in law or your boyfriend’s best buddy from high school, Jake. (Or any of his friends, for that matter). But these people are special to your boyfriend, so you should take the time to get to know them.
Ask him questions about people in his life that matter to him (parents, siblings, close friends, etc.) and stay up to date on what’s happening in his social circle. And, perhaps most importantly, make sure you show willingness to spend time with both your boyfriend AND his friends / family.
Spend Christmas morning at his mom’s house, for example. Or forgo “girls night” to play pool with your boyfriend and his buddies at the local pub on a Friday night. Not only will this bring the two of you closer, it will also be something he really appreciates and respects you for.
There are so many other things you can do to be a great girlfriend for the man in your life, but the three above are my top recommendations. And best of all, they can all be implemented right away.
So what are you waiting for? Get off your butt and show your man how important he is to you!
