Does ChatGPT Give Good Breakup Advice?
ChatGPT is taking over the world lately…or at least dominating the news.
But no one has answered the question we’re all asking…
Does ChatGPT give good breakup advice?
Today we’re going to put ChatGPT to the test and determine if it can help you get your ex back.
I’ve asked ChatGPT some of the most common questions my breakup coaching clients ask me. Let’s see if the answers are any good… or if they’re hot garbage.
Let’s start off with an easy one for our AI friend here. This is a question we’ve all asked once in our lives, whether we want our ex back or not:
How do I stop missing my ex?
This one is pretty accurate! I do often advise people to cut off contact with their exes as soon as possible after a breakup.
I also tell my clients to focus on self care and keeping busy.
That said, we know that ChatGPT pulls information from sources on the internet and mixes it around. I can’t help but think it may have puled advice from one or more articles on this website in crafting this answer.
One thing that I think was missed in this answer is that self improvement, as opposed to just self-care, is one of the most effective ways to get your mind off your ex. You’re sad because you’re focusing on the past. The best way out of this mindset is to focus on what’s next…on the future. And the best way to achieve this is by setting goals and crushing them.
If you can really strive to make your life the best it can be then your ex will be the last thing on your mind.
What should I do if I want my ex back?
Here we go. Now we’re finding the limits of this program. If you want your ex back please do NOT follow this advice. In fact, you’d be better served to do almost the exact opposite of what ChatGPT is telling you to do here.
If you want your ex back, reaching out to them for a frank and honest discussion about your relationship and what you want, where you share your feelings, is not a good idea.
I know that it makes sense on paper but in reality, this is just going to scare your ex away.
Instead, you need to take things slow with your ex. Start, of course, with 30 days of No Contact. The No Contact method allows you and your ex to cool off and return to an emotional neutral state so that you can reconnect without all the drama and baggage popping up.

Then, when you do start to reconnect with your ex, you need to focus on reestablishing the emotional connection you once had. At this stage, having serious conversations about the relationship, the breakup, or your feelings are only going to remind your ex of why you broke up in the first place and turn him or her off.
One strike against ChatGPT here as this advice is just straight up terrible!
Does my ex want me back?
Now this answer is not too too bad, but it is certainly incomplete. I do believe that your ex will do most of these things if they want you back. They will initiate contact. They will bring up positive memories. They will seem jealous or possessive. Most of the time.
That said, these are not sure signs that your ex wants you back. And more than that, the absence of these signs does not mean your ex is over you or doesn’t want you back. I know plenty of situations where exes are desperate to get someone back and they show none of these signs. Whether this is just a personal quirk, they’re trying to play it cool or they’re too stubborn to admit how they feel is up for debate.
I also don’t necessarily agree with number four on this list. Your ex expressing regret about the breakup is not a great indicator that they want you back.

What should I say to my ex if I want them back?
(mature and ethical answer but really bad advice)
This answer is certainly more mature and more ethical than I’d expect from ChatGPT but it’s actually really terrible advice. Let’s go through it.
First, being in touch with your feelings, being honest, and loving are all great and they’re things that you want to focus on when dealing with a partner but not with an ex.
The thing about breakups is that they change the relationship you have with this person. If you don’t change your behaviour to reflect this change, you’re just going to create confusion and hard feelings for your ex.
This means that being open and honest about your feelings is not the way to go right now. As I said earlier in this article, this time should be about being flirty, fun and reminding them of the good parts of the relationship, not the ugliness of the breakup.
But the bit at the end about being prepared for the possiblity of rejection is always good advice.
Why is my ex acting hot and cold?
This is another piece of good advice from ChatGPT. It’s very, very similar to the things that I tell my coaching clients every day.
- Your ex doesn’t know how they feel, they’re confused
- Your ex may be manipulating you to get validation
- Your ex is trying to keep their options open by keeping you on the hook
- Your ex may have things going on in their life that are monopolizing their attention
I’d add a few things to this list. Your ex may be seeing someone new. Your ex may be trying to see how you’ll react to a new relationship dynamic if they weren’t happy in your previous relationship. Or your ex may be trying to see if you’re still interested without risking embarrassment.
As you see, there are many answers to this question. It certainly means that, on some level, your ex is still invested in you and in the relationship.
Will sending my ex flowers help get them back?
This is just straight up bad advice, yet again. The only answer here is NO, never give your ex flowers if you want them back. Regardless of the reason for the breakup, sending flower to your ex makes you come across as kind of pathetic, unoriginal and desperate to get them back.
Gifts of any kind are not the way to get your ex back so please save your money, and focus on connecting with your ex emotionally, rather than through gifts.
What’s the fastest way to get over a breakup?
This another good, but incomplete answer. You should certainly do all of these things but there’s one thing that’s missing that many people avoid but that will make a world of difference if you’re trying to get over a breakup.
But before you can take that step, I’d recommend you read up on the topic. Namely, you need to check out my Beat The Breakup program. I’ve used science and experience to craft a plan that can help you move on from even the most difficult heartbreaks. I cover different situations and scenarios and provide simple steps to follow to get back on your feet and start loving life again.
So that big step that Chat GPT missed is simple…you need to start dating again. I know, it feels impossible at this current time but it really is transformative if you’re looking to get over a breakup…or to get your ex back. Dating after a breakup will put things into perspective. It will make you shower and do your hair, and dress your best.
It will really transform your state of mind in a huge way because it will show you that you’re not alone. You do have options and you can love again.
Now, I’m not saying that you should go out and get a new boyfriend or girlfriend a few days after ending a multi-year relationship, but waiting for a long period of time isn’t going to help you move on the way you may think.
So get out there, play the field and see where it take you. I think you’ll be surprised how powerful it can be.
What are some secret spells to make my ex take me back?
Well, it looks like ChatGPT disagrees with all the scam artists in my comments section. Good on you ChatGPT. You’re right!
Unfortunately magic, while it can provide a great placebo effect, will have no actual impact on your ex and by putting your trust in spellcasters, you’re just allowing yourself to be scammed.
Who is Brad Browning?
Wow, this is the most accurate ChatGPT has been yet! And this is further evidence that it’s not some all powerful genie…It’s just scraping the internet for information on a topic and regurgitating it in a similar form. This is straight from bios written about me on various pages all over the internet.
But it’s still very flattering.
So I think I have enough evidence now to say that, while ChatGPT may stumble into a nugget of wisdom here and there, it does not provide good breakup advice in general. And it certainly can’t help you with a specific situation. If you want personalized advice, you’ll just have to sign up for my coaching.
